I have been anticipating today since I entered the Sewvivor competition a couple weeks ago.  Today is the day that Rachel H. announces to the world who has made the top 16 contestants in the 3rd installment of this sewing contest.  I woke up this morning at 6am and have been trying not to facebook, instagram, and blog stalk Rachel ALL MORNING!  I think I checked my phone about a hundred times before I decided to "get to work" and fold my customary 4 loads of laundry sitting on my couch. (It doesn't sound like fun, but it took my mind off the announcement, that's for sure!).  By some miracle my kids were playing nicely in their rooms with no fighting or tantrums, which happens just about never.  What was up with today?

After lunchtime, I suddenly remembered I hadn't checked my phone in a few hours and decided to check the status of the posting.  I unlocked my phone and saw this notification along with a dozen other follows on Instagram . . . "sewvivor mentioned you in a comment: Congrats @sewinlovequilting!"  What!?  Nuh uh!?  Seriously!?  Seriously!?  And then came the running around the apartment jumping up and down yelling, "Woo hoo!" and "I did it!"  I went into my daughters' room and Lily, my oldest, started jumping with me and giggling.  It must have been REALLY funny to see me, her 31 year OLD mom, jumping for joy!  Reuben, my two year old, started running around the house growling in a gesture that could only mean, "Yes!"  Zoey, my sensitive and mellow daughter, started crying - I think I scared her just a wee bit.  But after some kisses and wrestling, she was giggling like the rest of us.

My post is titled, "Inconceivable," because that is the feeling I have right now.  I can not believe that I made it!  I have already been setting myself up for the disappointment of seeing 16 other contestants make the cut pretty much since I auditioned my quilt.  I saw all the beautiful quilts and pillows and bags and thought I didn't have a chance.  I am so grateful that by some chance I have the opportunity to be in this competition.  It means so much to me to be able to share my ideas and passion with people.  I am really looking forward to the creativity of the other contestants too!

If you are not already following Rachel's blog, please do!  Support me and the other contestants by voting for our projects and spreading the word to every man, woman, child, and dog that has ears and can safely use a computer without breaking it.  Our first challenge is NAUTICAL, and the voting will begin August 11th, so stay tuned for more reminders.

Thank you all for your support and kind words!  You're awesome!

  1. Congratulations! I must say I had a very similar morning -- I was just sure I was going to die if she didn't post soon and finally had to do something else. I think it's fun that at least three of us are from Utah! This is such a great place to be a quilter. Good luck!
